Teen authors visit Dakota County libraries in October

Several teen authors including nationally known Frank Beddor and Todd Strasser will visit Dakota County libraries during Teen Read Month in October.

Beddor is the author of the New York Times best-selling series, The Looking Glass Wars, a reworking of the story of Alice in Wonderland. He is also a former world champion freestyle skier, a film producer, actor and stuntman. Beddor will be at Robert Trail Library, Rosemount, on Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and at Galaxie Library, Apple Valley, on Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. During his library visits, he'll share the latest information about possible movie versions of the book and answer questions from teens as he shares from his best-selling books.

Strasser is the author of Give a Boy a Gun, Wish You Were Dead and the Mob Princess series. Teens can meet with the author and ask questions as he discusses common themes in his books like popularity, bullying, homelessness, drugs, school shootings and sexuality. It all happens Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Galaxie Library. Teens are also invited to get writing tips from Strasser on Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 3:30–5 p.m. at Wescott Library, Eagan. Registration is required. Teens will learn approaches to writing their own story.

Teen Read Month also features a short story contest, A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words. It's open to those 12–18 years old who use the Dakota County or South St. Paul libraries. For this year's contest, teens will have the chance to write about a photograph. A copy of the photo and information about the contest can be found on the Dakota County website atwww.dakotacounty.us/library, search short story contest.
