Native American Dancer at Pleasant Hill Library
A free program for families featuring Larry Yazzie, a national champion “Fancy Dancer”, will be held at Pleasant Hill Library on Saturday, October 30 at 2:00 pm.
Larry is a national champion Native-American Fancy dancer who began dancing at the age of five. Fancy dance is a popular contemporary dance style known for its creativity, flamboyance, and colorful costumes. It is an innovative blend of modern and traditional Native-American dance styles
Larry demonstrates the art of Fancy dance and tells the story of his own development as a Fancy dancer; from learning the basics as a five-year old, through his achievement as a national champion. Experience the thrill of the dance and gain new appreciation of Native-American traditions and spiritual life. This is a Minnesota Legacy Program. Money for this project was provided by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
Whooooooo wants to join us For Owl Story Times at The Library? Library Story time will feature a special critter this week—the wise old owl.
Toddlers age 2 to 3 years old are invited to a story time on Tuesday, October 19 at 10:30 a.m. Toddler will enjoy stories, rhymes, songs and activities selected to entertain and develop early literacy skills in children. Preschoolers age 4 to 6 are invited to their own story time on Wednesday, October 20 at 10:30 a.m. for a special story time featuring owls. The morning will be filled with books, music and movement will help build language and listening skills in kids. At the end of story time, children will create a craft, which they may take home with them. All story times are free and no registration is required. Baby Oh Baby! Join Your Friends for Baby Story Time at the Library
Babies newborn to age 2 are invited to a story time on Monday, October 18 at 10:15 a.m. This story time will feature choo choo trains and freight trains. There will be plenty of stories, songs, bounces and playtime that will make this story time perfect for children and their caregivers. Free Adult Computer Classes at the Library
Wednesday, October 20th 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Microsoft Word Basics)
Description
Learn the basic features of Microsoft Word, a word processing program. Create a document using many of the software features. Learn to format, set margins and save your document. Prerequisite: Computer Basics class and/or ability to use the mouse. Ages: 16 and older.
All computer classes are held in the meeting room of the Pleasant Hill Library. There is no charge for computer classes offered by the Dakota County Libraries. Registration, however, is required. Magician Matt Dunn at the Library October 22
Children of all ages are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, October 22 at 10:30 a.m. for a morning filled with magic and action packed comedy. Magician Matt will bring a live rabbit for some of his out of this world magic tricks. This is a fun-filled audience participation performance. Celebrate Halloween at the Library
Children age 2 to 5 years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Thursday, October 28 for a pre-Halloween party. There are two parties scheduled for the day. The first Halloween party begins at 1 p.m. The second Halloween party begins at 2:15 p.m. The parties last about 45 minutes.
The parties will feature an assortment of fun (not frightening) activities such as stories, games and crafts. This event is presented by the Dakota County Technical College early childhood education students. There is no charge for the event and Children must register for the program due to limited space.
