Lighted trees outside and decorated trees inside the vintage buildings will be featured at the annual "Christmas in the Village" event at Dakota City Heritage Village. The event is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 4-5 and11-12. Dakota City is located at 4008-220th St. W. at the Fairgrounds in Farmington.
Costumed interpreters will welcome visitors to the 1900s-era village where visitors of all ages will be able to make and take home a variety of Christmas-themed crafts. Children can visit Mrs. Claus in the Post Office and write a letter to Santa. Santa Claus himself will be housed in the Town Hall.
The General Store will feature a German Christmas theme and the Village Church will offer Christmas music and sing-alongs. The Harris House will feature an old-fashioned Christmas, cooking on the wood stove and free cookies. Local author Gordon Fredrickson will display his Christmas-themed books in the Depot.
Old-fashioned Christmas candy, Little House on the Prairie books and other items will be sold in the Gift Shop. The Millinery Shop will display vintage Christmas cards, crafts and soapmaking. The popular horse-drawn trolley rides will return and additional features are planned. Hot and cold food and beverages will be available in the Drugstore.
Admission prices will be $2 per child for those ages four through 12 years old and $3 per person for those ages 13 and up. Children under three will be admitted free and there will be a maximum charge of $10 for each carload. For information, call 651-460-8050.
