Dakota County calls for art for first ever exhibit.

Artists looking for an audience can submit their art to be considered for a new exhibit. The exhibit is planned for April and is one of the ways the Dakota County Public Art Citizen Advisory Committee is working to make local art more accessible to residents. Artists must live in Dakota County and submissions are due by Monday, March 14, 2011.

Submissions are limited to one per artist and may be on any one of three themes: Portraits of Dakota County, Reflections of Dakota County, and Secret Places of Dakota County. The committee encourages a variety of interpretations of the theme.

The art must be prepared for hanging on a wall and meet the criteria outlined by the committee. The criteria is at www.dakotacounty.us and can be found by searching public art. For more information, artists can also contact Jean Erickson, deputy director of Dakota County's Public Services and Revenue Division, 651-438-4286 or jean.erickson@co.dakota.mn.us. Art can include, but is not limited to, painting, drawing and photography.

The committee will review the submissions and make a recommendation to the board. The Dakota County Board of Commissioners will make the final decision on which works of art will be exhibited. The committee includes seven members who have backgrounds in art and have been selected by the board.

The selected art will be displayed in public spaces in Dakota County service centers including the Western Service Center in Apple Valley, the Northern Service Center in West St. Paul, and the Administration Center in Hastings. The exhibit will last for a total of six months.
