"Create Your Own Cookbook" program  at the Library Heirloom Cookbooks with Michael John Lerma - Saturday, January 15, 2011 2-3:30 pm
 
Learn how to create a cookbook with your own favorite recipes to pass on to your family and friends.  Writing your own heirloom cookbook is an excellent way to preserve your family heritage of food and gathering.   Once completed, you can give it as a gift, create an organizational fundraiser, or try and publish it.  Chef, Author and TV Personality John Michael Lerma will share the secrets of creating your own heritage cookbook.  This free program will be held on Saturday, January 15 from 2-3:30 pm at Pleasant Hill Library.  Registration begins Jan 2, is required, and is limited to 20 participants.  To register, call the library at 651-438-0200, or register on the Dakota County Library website  www.dakotacounty.us/library.   
 
 Get Up Close and Personal with Sled Dogs at the Library
     Children of all ages are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, January 14 to meet a Siberian Husky sled dog team. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. This fun and interesting presentation will enable children to learn more about sled dog racing, the equiptment needed for the mushers, as well as dog and winter safety.  Dress warm as the event will be held outdoors where the dogs will remain comfortable. 
Steppingstone Theater Presents...Magic! at the Pleasant Hill Library
     Children age six to eight years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11 for a magical morning--literally!  Children will work with a professional magician to learn how to perform amazing tricks with everyday object that are certain to wow family and friends.  The magician performs regularly at the Steppingsone Theater.  There is no charge for the event, but registration is required.  People may register online at www.dakotacounty.us/library.  People may also stop in the library to register. This is a Minnesota Legacy program.  For more information, call the library at 651-438-0200.

                

Free Computer Classes at the Library in January

Internet Basics Class,   Thursday  January  6, 2011  2-4 pm

Pleasant Hill Library will be offering a free class on Thursday, January 6 from 2-4 pm on the basics of using the Internet.  Students will gain a basic understanding of the Internet, learn about web browsers and how to navigate one.  You'll locate things on the internet using a search engine, a website, a URL address and the toolbar.  Class is limited to 10 people and registration is required.  You can register by calling the library at 438-0200 or register online at www.dakotacounty.us/library.  Registration begins on  Dec 24.

MS Word Class  -  Thursday, January 20, 2011 2-4 pm

Pleasant Hill Library will be offering a free computer class on learning the word processing program, Microsoft Word on Thursday, January 20, from 2-4 pm.  Learn the basic features of MS Word and create a document using many of the software features.  Learn to format, set margins and save your document.  Class is limited to 10 people and registration is required.  You can register by calling the library at 438-0200 or register online at www.dakotacounty.us/library.  Registration begins on  Thurs, January 6.


LeDuc Book Group Discusses In Cod We Trust: Living the Norwegian Dream

     The  January meeting of the Le Duc Book Group will be held at the Pleasant Hill Library on  January 6, at 6:30 PM. (The LeDuc Historic Estate closes for the month of January.)
     January's selection will be In Cod We Trust: Living the Norwegian Dream by Eric Dregni, a hilarious and moving memoir of a Fullbright Fellowship recipient and his pregnant wife's return to the land of his great- grandfather.
     Books are available to check out at the Pleasant Hill Library.  New members are always welcome to join the book group.  This group is a partnership between the Dakota County Historical Society and the Pleasant Hill Library.  The book discussion is lead by Pleasant Hill Library Branch Manager Allan Cotter.  For more information, call the libary at 651-438-0200. 
                                                                           
Let's Get Silly at Baby Story Time
     Babies and their caregivers are invited to a special story time on Monday, January 3 at 10:15 a.m. in the Pleasant Hill Library meeting room.  Babies age newborn to 24 months will enjoy a morning filled with stories, songs, bounces and playtime geared to entertain and educate babies.

Playful Dancing Penguins at Library Story Time
     Toddlers and preschoolers are invited to story times at the Pleasant Hill Library this week for a morning of fun-filled activities and stories about dancing penguins.
     Toddler story time is scheduled for Tuesday, January 4 at 10:30 a.m.  Toddlers will enjoy a morning of penguin  stories, rhymes, songs and activities selected to entertain as well as develop early literacy skills. 
     Preschoolers, age 4 to 6 years old, are invited to their own story time on Wednesday, January 5 at 10:30 a.m.  Preschoolers will enjoy a morning filled with books, music and movement activities all geared around a penguin theme.  Activities during story time help build language and listening skills in children.  Children will also be able to create a  penguin themed craft which they may take home with them.
