Celebrate Black History Month at Dakota County libraries

Take a journey through black history at the library. Explore the events, meet the people and delve into the culture that helped shape our country. February is Black History Month and the library is offering programs for all ages.

Mixed Blood Theatre: Daughters of Africa
Mixed Blood Theatre brings the music of Lena Horne, Aretha Franklin, Queen Latifah, and many others to life, in this exuberant, music-driven celebration of African American women’s triumphs and accomplishments. Ages: All Ages

Blues for Kids
Learn to play the blues on your very own harmonica, which you will receive at the program. Space is limited. Registration is required. Sponsored and presented by the Greater Twin Cities Blues Music Society. Ages: 8 and older

Tracks of New Thinking with Anita Ruth and T. Mychael Rambo
Experience the legacy of African-American poetry and music. Beginning with songs of freedom, discover not only the beauty of the compositions, but also the power of language in communicating ideas, experiences and emotions. A Minnesota Legacy program. Ages: All Ages

Quilters of Gees Bend
Create a fabric quilt patch in the style of the African-American quilters of Gees Bend, Alabama with the help of ArtStart. Supplies provided. Registration is required and opens two weeks prior to the event. A Minnesota Legacy program. Ages: 12 – 18.
