Is your quilt a work of art? Dakota County quilters invited to submit entries

Some artists paint, some sculpt, some draw—some quilt. Dakota County is looking for the best work from local quilters to display during a six-month exhibit planned for the Northern Service Center in West. St. Paul.

Dakota County residents can submit entries by sending an electronic photograph of the quilt and completed submission form to Jean Erickson, jean.erickson@co.dakota.mn.us, by Sept. 23. Download the form by searching for public art at www.dakotacounty.us. The link is at the bottom of the page. The Dakota County Public Art Citizens Advisory Committee will recommend, to the County Board, a selection of quilts to be displayed. The decision is based on aesthetic and artistic quality. Quilts can be sewn by hand or machine and must be less than five years old. Quilts can range in size from 12 by 12 inches to 7 feet 6 inches by 10 feet. The quilt must also be appropriate for all audiences.

Those who do not have the form can submit the following information instead: a written description of the quilt including the size, material and title; an explanation of how the quilt depicts the history, culture or environment of Dakota County; and the name, phone number, address and e-mail of the quilter.

Following the initial selection, a second round of selections will be based on a review of the actual quilt. Based on the selection process, the Dakota County Public Art Citizens Advisory Committee will make their recommendation to the Dakota County Board of Commissioners. The committee will notify winners of the board's decision by Oct. 29. For more information, please contact Beth Adams at 952-484-7274.
