Membership Drive Scheduled for Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library

Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library Kicks Off Fall Membership Drive

Friends of the Pleasant Hill Library are kicking off a fall membership drive this week to boost membership and spread the word about Friends. Anyone interested in learning about Friends activities or becoming a Friend of the Library is invited to visit the library between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 13th. FOL members will be available in the lobby area to answer questions and sign people up as members. Refreshments will be served.

The Pleasant Hill Friends of the Library is a dedicated group of people who appreciate the benefits of a first rate public library and are committed to helping provide library services that may not otherwise be available. The group began in 1993 and now has more than 145 members. Membership dues are very reasonable at $10 for an individual and $15 for a family.

Friends contribute funds for library materials and are involved in a number of volunteer projects that benefit the library and community. Members sponsor and help out at programs and other library events. They deliver reading materials to seniors, organize books on library shelves, and create presentations for the display case. Friends maintain a library on wheels at the County Jail and donate used books to the Lewis House, Courthouse, Juvenile Services Center and Hastings Family Service. The FOL group also awards a yearly scholarship to a Hastings High School Senior.

The main source of revenue for the Pleasant Hill Friends group is Used Book sales. Members organize and staff biannual sales in February and August. They also stock a shelf in the library lobby where books can be purchased every day.
