Art means business at new Dakota County Library programs

Work of Art workshops teach skills to thrive as an artist

Dakota County Library has partnered with nonprofit Springboard for the Arts to host free business workshops geared toward local artists. Work of Art: Business Skills for Artists is a professional development curriculum designed to teach business skills to artists in all disciplines — visual, performing and literary arts. Artists can take the whole series, customized combinations or individual workshops that meet their needs.

Registration is open for Work of Art: Grant Writing Workshop, scheduled for 5:30–8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18 at Wescott Library in Eagan. The interactive workshop is designed to help individual artists and small arts groups understand and prepare strong grant applications, while encouraging participants to think deeper into their business needs.

Additional workshops on other topics — including portfolios, business plans and pricing — will be offered in the fall. Details on these sessions will be published in Dakota County Library's Fall 2018 Program Guide and at www.dakotacounty.us/library.

The programs will be presented by Springboard for the Arts, a St. Paul-based economic and community development organization. Its mission is to cultivate vibrant communities by connecting artists with skills, information and services they need to make a living.
