Chill Out at the Library! Join Winter Jackets Reading Program– January 10 to February 28
All adults are invited to join the tenth annual "Winter Jackets" program at Pleasant Hill Library.  Winter is a great time to cuddle up to a good book—and that's what the program is all about.  Grab a book – perhaps one you've been wanting to read for a long time, sit down and take the time to just enjoy reading.  "Winter Jackets" is a winter reading program only for adults.   Sign up at the library, read or listen to a book, fill out a quick review form for each book you read, and enter your name in a weekly drawing for prizes.  
The program runs from January 10 to February 28th this year. Winter Jackets is presented in partnership with the Metropolitan Library Service Agency (MELSA). There is no cost to participate.  For more information call 651-438-0200 or visit www.dakotacounty.us/library
                                           
"Create Your Own Cookbook" program  at the Library
Heirloom Cookbooks with Michael John Lerma - Saturday, January 15, 2011 2-3:30 pm
Learn how to create a cookbook with your own favorite recipes to pass on to your family and friends.  Writing your own heirloom cookbook is an excellent way to preserve your family heritage of food and gathering.   Once completed, you can give it as a gift, create an organizational fundraiser, or try and publish it.  Chef, Author and TV Personality John Michael Lerma will share the secrets of creating your own heritage cookbook.  This free program will be held on Saturday, January 15 from 2-3:30 pm at Pleasant Hill Library.  Registration begins January 2, is required, and is limited to 20 participants.  To register, call the library at 651-438-0200, or register on the Dakota County Library website www.dakotacounty.us/library.   
                                   
Get Up Close and Personal with Sled Dogs at the Library
Children of all ages are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library on Friday, January 14 to meet a Siberian Husky sled dog team. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. This fun and interesting presentation will enable children to learn more about sled dog racing, the equipment needed for the mushers, as well as dog and winter safety.  Dress warm as the event will be held outdoors where the dogs will remain comfortable.

Steppingstone Theater Presents...Magic! at the Pleasant Hill Library
     Children age six to eight years old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11 for a magical morning--literally!  Children will work with a professional magician to learn how to perform amazing tricks with everyday object that are certain to wow family and friends.  The magician performs regularly at the Steppingstone Theater.  There is no charge for the event, but registration is required.  People may register online at www.dakotacounty.us/library.  People may also stop in the library to register. This is a Minnesota Legacy program.  For more information, call the library at 651-438-0200.

                                               

Free Computer Class at the Library in January

MS Word Class  -  Thursday, January 20, 2011 2-4 pm

Pleasant Hill Library will be offering a free computer class on learning the word processing program, Microsoft Word on Thursday, January 20, from 2-4 pm.  Learn the basic features of MS Word and create a document using many of the software features.  Learn to format, set margins and save your document.  Class is limited to 10 people and registration is required.  You can register by calling the library at 438-0200 or register online at www.dakotacounty.us/library.  Registration begins on  Thursday, January 6.

 Celebrate Winter at Library Story Times With Tales of Snow Families

Toddlers and preschoolers are invited to story times at the Pleasant Hill Library this week for a morning of fun-filled activities and stories about snow families.  Toddler story time is scheduled for Tuesday, January 18 at 10:30 a.m.  Toddlers will enjoy a morning of mitten  stories, rhymes, songs and activities selected to entertain as well as develop early literacy skills. 

     Preschoolers, age 4 to 6 years old, are invited to their own story time on Wednesday, January 19  at 10:30 a.m.  Preschoolers will enjoy a morning filled with books, music and movement activities all geared around a wintery/ snowytheme.  Activities during story time help build language and listening skills in children.  Children will also be able to create a  winter wonderland themed craft which they may take home with them.

Ready. Set. Sing!
     Children age Birth to Five Years Old are invited to the Pleasant Hill Library at 10:30 a.m.m on Monday, January 31 for a morning filled with magic and music!  This event is presented by the MacPhail Center for Music Early Childhood Program.  Children and their parents will explore the magic of music and play through hands-on activities with MacPhail music specialists.  They will experience music's impact on learning and reading readiness. There is no charge for the event, however registration is required due to space limitations.  To register, stop in the library or visit the library website at www.dakotacounty.us/libraryThis is a Minnesota Legacy Program.  Registration begins January 17.
